ARFcom Survivor from CO

Greetings from CO. I drifted away from guns, shooting and hunting after college and kids but a few years back my daughter expressed an interest so got back into it. I was a reloader and got back into that too. Found the ARFcom site and their reloading forum was a good place to get some help and more up-to-date info (I started in the early 80s and then hadn't reloaded for 30 years). Little by little I got more and more frustrated there. Many just don't seem to have basic comprehension skills and the undercurrent of right-wing conspiracy theories and general cluelessness was frustrating.

Anyway, hoping to find some like-minded hobbyists here.

I assume you mean ar15 dot com? Yeah, it's a rough site if you're not drinking the cool aide--I never bothered registering there but do read it to keep abreast of what the latest hatred is. We're much more friendly. Welcome.

Yep. ARF is their shorthand name. Looking forward to a more friendly like-minded group.

Arfcom is a crazy site, but there is much knowledge there about AR-pattern rifles.

Welcome, Dog person! :)

ARFcom has a lot of good material, but you have to search for it. The discussion areas have become frightening, as have many forum discussions.

If you own a V8 performance car of the American variety, and want to be part of the enthusiast forum, you will be in the company of 98% pro Trump crowd. Is it just the forum culture in general, or am I just a self hating (closeted?) right-winger, living in a really red county, driving a Camaro and owning guns?

It seems to be nearly every forum. I had to "cut back" on other forums that should never be political that became political.

i cut my gun teeth on ar15. far back in the archives are posts by lurker. yes, that was me. one day i just had enough, haven't been back.
same thing happened on the pontiac fiero forum i was a regular on. just plain hateful.
conservatism apparently loves an echo chamber. it's sad, i met some decent people on those sites.

I agree. Sad. I just couldn't keep my mouth shut any longer. After a few heated threads, I decided to leave other forums. I didn't want my internet history/fingerprints being related to some forums that went way off the deep end.

in their minds there's no such thing as moderation. it became clear that eventually they'd turn on me, because they have to have an enemy. even though i'm not much of a liberal, you're either with 'em or agin 'em. if you don't hate homosexuals or foreigners or POC, and don't praise their old-testament deity in the next breath, you're agin. i don't even think it's about political ideology any more, it's just about hate.

Well, back in HS I inherited a 6mm Rem bolt action that my grandfather built. My dad also had a couple lever guns (30-30 and 22lr) and his Model 70 30-06. After we got the 6mm we jumped into reloading and also took it hunting a few times. I also did a bit of trap (or skeet not sure which - mainly just threw out clay pigeons and shot 'em).

Then college, wife and kids happened and I didn't touch a gun for close to 30 years. Partly because guns became so much more associated with right-wing nut jobs and I just didn't want to have anything to do with them.

Eventually I got back into it and added an AR15 and an AR10 and a couple revolvers (357 and 44) and also bought my daughter a 17HMR bolt action. I reload for all these (except 17HMR).

Seriously though, I don't really have any good gun porn pics. Probably should take some. Here's a couple simple ones. Also don't seem to have a pic handy of my Blackhawk. Guess I'll have to take one.

This is my dad's Ruger single six he bought c1954. Even has a nice cowboy belt and holster but I'm too fat to wear it. He sent it to Ruger to get the transfer bar installed back when they came out with it, but I reverted it back to original 8-) with the original parts that Ruger sent back and he kept.

Felt bad I didn't have a pic of my Blackhawk since it's probably my favorite one so snapped one.
