Can’t possibly be canvas painted w epoxy can it? Canvas is flexible. Epoxy, not so much.

Canvas would be painted with "dope". Tightens the skin and is as flexible as the canvas. Same thing used on antique aircraft.

long long ago (i was maybe 16) i knew a guy who built a kayak much like this one. he covered it in canvas and painted it with blue paint, i don't remember it being smelly so i'm guessing latex. plans say "outside enamel".
stem on left, stern on right.

a lot of detail sanding to do while waiting for the weather to improve.

right now it's about 12&1/2 lbs.

Cat tail morning glory sounds like a line from a Grateful Dead song.

I sure like the lines of that little paddle craft.

got the detail sanding done, made a jig for the table saw and ripped some stringers. need some more poplar. tomorrow i'll go into town.
the jig: piece of 1x4 which bolts onto the bevel gauge, holds skinny bits of wood near the bloodthirsty blade of finger-lopping so i don't have to.

in the "heavenly blue" pic, i note the little bugs on the one on the right going in for the pollen.
the petals have creases and lines to guide them in toward the white, then yellow center where the nectar is. it must seem like a religious experience would feel if a bug could have one, everything all around you turning luminous glowing golden in the presence of the godhead. maybe i ate too many morning glory seeds in my yoot. ommmm.

and then the little pollen footprints they left on the blue vestibule as they stumbled and staggered their way out, completely besotted.

tuesday i cut a bunch more stringers and put two on the frame. today it rained, tomorrow it will rain. so maybe, maybe saturday will build some more.

and then i did a bad thing. googled "field & stream blade 97 kayak" and got a hit within 25 miles, at mooresville. so i went and bought it. so now i'll have two very different kayaks, one wood, longer and narrower, the other plastic, shorter and wider. i'll see which i like better. the wood one should be faster, the plastic will be more durable, able to shrug off minor rocks and sharp sticks. and i'll have improved my woodworking skills. one day for this, maybe. i've already had hang-gliding and sailplane lessons.

Now you're talkin'. Needs a thick wire ring about the periphery so you can see where the prop is. Some colored stripes on the tips would rock, too.

I think there's an opportunity to design a wing for below the kayak so you can get up on it and really fly.

Of course I assume it's going on the kayak. I mean, why not?

i bought the zenoah g25b off a powered parachute. it had a cage around the prop, which got discarded somewhere along the way. it's intended to be used in pusher configuration, so will be behind the cockpit.
i've had this fascination with ultralight airplanes for the last 30 years. i'm a member on a homebuilt airplane forum, though i rarely post there. my woodworking skills aren't up to it yet. i'm confident that i can fly and land, but when i ask or see others ask for help designing, the usual response is "learn aerodynamics". yeah, ok, i'll get back to you, thanks for the help.[/sarc] likely work from a plan, i have a little stack of them.

i get it, they don't want to go through the whole aircraft design course with every noob who passes through, nor do they want the potential liability. it's not like it's a gun forum. someone could get hurt.

but in the larger scheme of things, i'm 67, and am feeling the passage of time more and more. i have no children and i'm not leaving the entire lurker family fortune to the LGC. there are things i want to do and see before the diminishing capacity really kicks in. now that i have the money and free time, if i don't even try to do the stuff i've always wanted to do and see, what was the point?

Yup, parasailing off the top of Machu Pichu sounds like a fun challenge. I can be your Sancho Panza.

When I was a kid, "dope" was that clear stuff you brushed over your paper-covered model plane after you spritzed the paper with water to shrink it tight so you could launch it down the hill and out over Mr. Cooper's alfalfa field.

Now, you understand that an air pushed kayak is just so totally excellent I can barely contain myself. Are you going to install a Deadman switch in case you fall out? I mean, such an excellent craft should not be allowed to wander the waterways unsupervised, nor should we allow the world to be exposed to power curses from a wet dude in a life jacket at about 107 dB.

So, neat-o.

airboats where i come from are flat-bottomed, like big jon-boats, perfect for skimming over gators and snakes in the 'glades. if i had two identical kayaks arranged as pontoons i expect that would work.

Man, would you have to be in good shape to steer one of those. I'd pick warmer waters though.

This is about when (we’re SailDesign the caring type) that we should be encouraging you to, “learn nautical design”.

Instead, we have a video to a jet propelled kayak.
