I have a bargain rack TC Renegade that is my go-to frontstuffer. It’s ugly, but it’s awesome. Makes pretty good groups too. I like 54, it’s thumpy.
The other day, I started thinking about this, and today I did it. The old style scope blocks are low enough to be out of the sight line when I take the scope off. Can’t wait to shoot it like this.

3Yikes! You hunting bear out there? That's an awesome weapon.

454 sounds big, but a 54 round ball weighs only 220 grains. It's like a 44 mag.

9You need buckskins with zippers and Vibram soles to wear when you shoot that thing.

Re: Mounted a scope today
10Marlene, is that a vintage Malcolm scope?

Re: Mounted a scope today
11I don't know what that is, Marlene. But it's fucking awesome. You have a way with guns and art and the skills to make it work.
Re: Mounted a scope today
12No, it's a reproduction. It's marketed as a "Malcolm" but this one is closer to a copy of the old Winchester and Lyman "B" scopes.
Re: Mounted a scope today
13I would like it more if the barrel of the scope was unfinished brass, whats the field of view like?Marlene wrote: Mon Jan 13, 2020 10:17 pmNo, it's a reproduction. It's marketed as a "Malcolm" but this one is closer to a copy of the old Winchester and Lyman "B" scopes.
Re: Mounted a scope today
14Small by modern standards. It’s 6x and you can see a whole standard target page at 100 yards, but I don’t remember off hand how much more. I’ll make a more accurate note of fov next time I have it in hand.
