"A new long-distance shooting record of 4.4 miles was set September 13 in western Wyoming by a shooter who requested anonymity."

Crazy. 8" target, 25 seconds between firing and impact, 3 1/8" from the center.

Yes kudos to him. Special rifle and special ammo made it easier, but it's still an achievement.

My top pick is still 2019 3 shot cold bore record with stock Savage 338 lapua action, barrel, and Vortex scope. Then add extra goodies in the article.
36" target at 2158 yards. That is doing the work.

Is there some sort of technology that can tell you how you can lob bullets kind of accurately, like within a few feet say a mile or so away?

Yes, In the article referenced it mentions "Ballistic solving was provided by Applied Ballistics."
I have also had good results using Hornady 4DOF calculator
As you mentioned wind and other variables like temp, pressure , humidity are difficult
As long as all the data is correct the result is very accurate

If we restricted the conversation to those who have made a similar shot, nobody here would criticize him for any reason.

Then there would be no conversation. Restricting criticism for any reason certainly is not "liberal".
Exactly what did you find to be critical ?
