So, I contacted Cerakote's training group and asked about getting in to a class. They were very polite when they basically told me that they don't want my business. I'm starting up a gunsmithing gig and thought offering Cerakote -- from a certified, trained preson -- would be great for sales. Nope. Politely told me to go to the local approved firms who happen to have a backlog of not just weeks but months.
Anyone done third-party training? I'm looking at youtube videos and it looks a lot like the powder coat training I did but just more expensive if I f'up. I'm willing to practice on scrap metal / remnants, I have a metal shop in my studio and plenty of Al, steel, and Ti in the bin. I'm in (greater) Pittsburgh and don't mind driving a day and staying in a hotel to do a 1- or 2-day program.
thx!
Re: Cerakote training not from the corportate office?
3Ok, my response has disappeared twice.
Yes, that's the stuff. I can buy the kit but without a little "cerakote 101" I'm just going make a lot of expensive mistakes at first.

Re: Cerakote training not from the corportate office?
4There have been many first times at which I was not my present best, but they were still a hell of a lot of fun.
I have an old Bearcat and a 1904 Winchester that couldn't get much uglier. Might give this stuff a go.

Getting old, or is it just me?

6Good news, everyone!
AGI is launching a Certified Cerakote class. Not sure when it will hit their web site, but it's being offered to some of us doing the gunsmithing program.
