London Bridge sealed off amid reports of gunfire
The Met Police confirmed that it was dealing with an incident at London Bridge and advised people near the scene to follow directions from officers on the ground.

John McManus told the BBC News channel: "Just a few minutes ago I was walking across London Bridge on the south bank to the north bank of the bridge.

"There appeared to be a fight going on on the other side of the bridge, with several men attacking one man."

Early reports appear to be stabbings and armed police responded, no word on number of casualties or deaths.

It's being treated as terrorism until they know more details. Around 2 pm local time, Borough Market day a lot of people out. Involving the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police Force (Scotland Yard). Terrorists target locations that give them the opportunity to inflict the most casualties.
"There’s great concern about this particular location, London Bridge, where two years ago there was a terrorist incident where eight people were killed on London Bridge and at the nearby Borough Market," he tells CNN.

The Met Police confirmed it's terrorist. One terrorist was shot and was killed, he was wearing an apparent dummy suicide vest. A second suspect was detained.

You're right, it was moved to Lake Havasu, AZ. The dumb Yankee who bought it thought he was buying Tower Bridge. It's still there, I've driven across it a few times. A while back I saw a survey done by CA of where retirees move with their CA pensions and for former CA law enforcement the two most popular places were Lake Havasu, AZ and Grants Pass, OR.

That's what I remembered. Talk about being scammed, and scammed by yourself! :roflmao:
From the pictures it looks like a new, totally generic bridge was built and named...London Bridge.

Looks like the people jumped the knife welding terrorist. That there takes some courage, especially since he had on what looked like a bullet proof vest that could have been a bomb.

Yes, reminded me of incidents in the US where bystanders jump in - apparently one man wrestled the "large knife" from the terrorist. Then City of London armed police arrived and got people away and saw what looked like a suicide vest on the terrorist and shot him. Heard one former counter terrorist officer explaining on the radio that in such cases they are taught to fire a head shot so the explosive can't be detonated. Of course there are explosives where if the terrorist is shot and drops the activation device it explodes.

We'll see if this has any effect on the current election campaign.

Dramatic video [link] shows the moment London cops fired two bullets into the paroled terrorist who had just fatally stabbed two people in a knife attack at London Bridge on Friday afternoon. The attacker — now identified by London police as paroled terror criminal Usman Khan, 28, arrested in 2010 as part of a nine-man plot to bomb Big Ben, the London Stock Exchange and Westminster Abbey — died on the spot, officials said.

The video first shows Khan struggling with a good Samaritan on the bridge as armed police officers rush in and surround him. One of the cops then pulls the civilian off the terrorist, the video shows. Moments later, the zealot’s body convulses as two shots ring out. The madman has a previous conviction for an “Islamist terrorism-related offense” — and was still wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet, multiple news outlets reported. The terror group Khan admitted belonging to was inspired by Al-Qaeda, the Guardian reported.

Khan was singled out by a judge at his sentencing as one of “the more serious jihadists.” The judge recommended that he and two others in the group should not be released from prison until they are fully rehabilitated, the Guardian reported. He was sprung from prison about a year ago after agreeing to electronic monitoring, the Telegraph reported, citing anonymous government sources.

He stabbed five people in Friday’s attack, killing two and wounding three, police said. Witnesses sprang into action and tackled him to the ground before police responded to the scene. One of the hero civilians ripped a 5-foot Narwhal tusk from the wall of a nearby historic hall and used it to help subdue the knife-wielding madman, a witness said. Khan reportedly began his attack at the hall, where he was to give a speech describing himself as rehabilitated, the Telegraph reported.

He killed two and injured three more, but fools say this shows gun control works:

They have knife laws (which of course worked--not), and I'm pretty sure we're about to see narwhal tusk control laws piggy backing on fire extinguisher control. Now they're gonna have to fight terrorists with tea bags.

One of the praised heroes of the London Bridge terror attack yesterday is a convicted murderer. It is believed James Ford, 42, was out on day release on Friday when he intervened to stop knifeman Usman Khan, who fatally stabbed a man and a woman during his killing rampage. In April, 2004, Ford was jailed for life – with a minimum of 15 years – for the murder of 21-year-old Amanda Champion, who had learning difficulties. Ford strangled and cut Amanda’s throat before leaving her body on a waste ground near her home in Ashford, Kent, in July, 2003. His victim’s family insisted he is ‘not a hero’ after they were horrified to see Ford praised as one on television, adding that he was ‘scum’ and ‘people don’t change’. It is believed he is in the final days of his sentence at Sheppey’s open prison, HMP Standford Hill. He was allowed out for the day to attend a prisoner’s rehabilitation conference hosted by the University of Cambridge at Fishmongers’ Hall. He is understood to have rushed to help a woman who was being attacked by Khan.

The London Bridge terror attack shows why really strict gun control is a very, very good idea
But Britons should count themselves lucky, in comparison to what has happened in the United States. There have been over 408 deaths in 366 mass shootings this year alone in America.*
In America, the death toll has come largely from mass shootings. In the UK, while terrorists have used guns in a small number of incidents, most of the deaths have come through other, less effective methods: Stabbings, driving vehicles into crowds, and explosives.
The obvious difference between the two countries is that Britain has strict gun control laws. Very few people own guns in the UK. And if you want to own one, the restrictions are onerous. Handguns are all but banned. Automatic weapons are completely banned. Rifles, for sport or hunting, can only be obtained after you have received permission from the police, who conduct background checks on applicants. Shooting clubs must also obtain licenses.

Re:

Stabbings, motor vehicles, bombings vs firearms - none of them are good options. England, Scotland and Wales have strict firearms laws and that seems to be what they want. They've convinced themselves that that is the best for them - their nations their laws. Northern Ireland is different, one can get a pistol permit besides shotgun and rifle permits and NI cops are armed 24/7.

Heard one of the men who took down the terrorist Khan interviewed. He said that Khan had two knives, one taped to each hand that made it difficult to disarm him. The video shows a man carrying one of the knives away, that man has been identified as a plain clothes British Transport Police cop who rushed to the scene from the Underground station.
