Firearm prohibitionists push to ban Del Mar Fairgrounds firearm shows

Gun show opponents take aim at fair board
Activists advocating for an end to the gun shows held at the Del Mar Fairgrounds plan to make their case before the state-appointed fair board on Tuesday.

It won’t be the first time the board has been asked to reconsider the gun shows, which draw thousands of firearms enthusiasts from throughout Southern California, and are a significant source of income for the fairgrounds.

But the appeals, which typically follow a mass shooting, don’t yield the outcome opponents are seeking.

San Diego County like many Southern California counties is purple, blue for presidential elections but red for state and local ones. Del Mar besides being a very wealthy area, is better known for the Del Mar Racetrack part of the fairgrounds. I agree with BKinsey, CA gun shows are a nothing compared to out of state gun shows.

Gun shows are not the problem, and they should not be banned
To a gun ban lobby reinvigorated through millions in funding from billionaires, gun shows are part of the evil “gun culture” that must be eradicated. Banning gun shows is a way to attack the “gun culture” by taking away a place where gun owners gather and exchange ideas, plan politics, learn the law, and discover the joys of shooting sports and the social utility of guns for self-defense. Some people just don’t like guns, and apparently have never been to a gun show like Crossroads of the West. Instead, they would rather imagine it — and spin it to others — as a gun-slinging redneck convention where gang members and drug dealers shop.

Thanks to a sophisticated multimillion-dollar PR campaign of shame meant to demonize the “gun culture” and ostracize those who choose to own a gun for sport or to defend their families, thoughtful policy decision making has been replaced by political showmanship fueled by false sound bites. The gun ban lobby pushes useless laws that don’t work. We hate guns, so just do something. Anything.

Pandering politicians see opportunities to self-promote. So, for example, San Diego Assemblyman Todd Gloria bragged that he did “something” by pushing a law banning gun shows at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. But the only evidence Gloria presented was from gun shows with minor problems that took place in other states and in Mexico, where California’s strict laws don’t apply.

The gun shows they portray on national news seem to skip all the flea market booths. I was really disappointed in gun shows the past decade. Prices were never very good any more and, often, were marked up considerably. They actually started to become more political and racist after 2008, so why go?

Return of Del Mar gun show sparks debate
“This is the most serious crisis we have faced with the gun show,” Sharp said. “At the last gun show that we attended with our mystery shopper, we observed more than 80% of the sale items were ghost guns.”
“These guns pose a grave threat to public safety, and people who are legally prohibited from owning firearms are able to create them without consequences in most states,” the center says.

AB 897 aims to fix that by defining the weapons as guns. “But it does not go in effect until 2024 so we need immediate emergency legislation to move that timetable up,” Sharp said.
That last sentence lost me. What are "the weapons" that need to be defined as "guns"?

What bullshit.

"Ghost Guns" are illegal to make in the state of CA. If you wish to complete a Ghost Gun kit you must first request a serial number to be issued by the state. At that point it is registered to you and no longer "Ghost". You also must abide and build the firearm in accordance with all current laws. Includes background checks, certificates, fees and pics of your first pet.

New handguns must be from a roster, so no handgun ( single action revolvers are exempt from the roster) for you.

That 80% number? Gotta be parts. Since purchasing firearms includes an FFL and a 10 day wait this puts a huge hinderance on purchasing a firearm at a 2 day gun show. So what's left? Parts.... And beef jerky, Beanie Babies, MAGA crap, conspiracy crap, leather goods..... Come to think of it, the last Del Mar Gun Show I attended I'd guess about 40% of the stuff wasn't firearms or firearm parts, but crap. So the 80% is probably bullshit too.

ETA:
the "Weapons" are the 80% frames, which is bullshit too!
