Gehmann astigmatism iris and sight bits

1
Part of my rifle build I had a goal to put peep sights on it. Admittedly this is a bit more than just the run of the mill peep setup. The front sight setup is based on Gehmann and the 22mm foresight anti-glare tube attaches to the front of the holder. The rear sight is a Centra LR (long range) rear sight and the Gemnann astigmatism correction iris with 6 color filters has the same iris thread size as Centra components. The rear iris has a six color filter in addition to the cylinder correction. Now I have to cut the shims for the front sight and the setup is ready for field adjustment.

Working on the shim bits. The thickest metal is .015” and I need to build up around .045”-.047” thickness. Then I’ll have to bend them to fit on the barrel. One cut. Another strip the same size and then I’ll cut three pieces for .045”.

Three pieces for the front sight band cut. They actually appear to be at least .046” plus combined. The barrel band doesn’t really measure .922”. Appears a hair under closer to .921” in spots. Might not need a .002” shim, the three .015” shims might be enough.

Next I’ll cut the shims for the dovetail at the front sight holder.
