Bravo, RParker. A really insightful l explanation ultimately highlighting the responsibility for each of us to take on this issue of racism. Calling racists “mentally ill” is not only a misnomer, it offhandedly means to dismiss and even shame racists as being utterly hopeless individuals therefore relieving the collective from any work. A byproduct of this form of shaming also happens to demean those actually struggling with mental illness such as depression in a daily basis. None of this is good nor leads to progress.
