Y'all might be getting tired of seeing my Springer, even with the new grips. In a thread about point shooting I referred to a range report where I shot these two from the hip. The MKII shot point of aim, and it was easy to hit the target. The Springer hit low.

Now we can see exactly why this is.

I don't know whether this is gun pr0n. Well, they've obviously just been out doin' the nasty, range soot still clinging to each. So, yeah.

i got the little single-shot pistols from dixie gun works, i believe they were made by palmetto, they appear not to sell them now. "abilene derringer" they were called. i had originally ordered a philadelphia derringer kit but decided it was beyond my skill set, so exchanged it for the pair. here's their page. i suggest you get a lemat.

This is another Russian SKS of mine. Does anyone know how they get the stock to look like that? Various specialized milsurp forums have guesses about it, but I wanted to ask people who might have a different perspective.

Thanks! I have a couple like that and always wondered if it was the type of wood used or something else that makes that nice pattern.

No one really knows. They were produced in the 1951 in the USSR. My other one like it has a blued bayonet and also marked 1951.

And I'll post a boring old WASR. I lightly stained the wood. These old ones came unstained and ugly. I like how it looks now.

It came with a slant brake. I tried a AK-74 style brake and settled on a tapco brake for now. Still haven't found a brake I love, but the A2 style FH for AKs works well (not pictured).

I replaced the grip and I like the new one better. I finally settle on a Bushnell TRS-25 and a Bushnell 4x scope for shooting it, but the irons work just fine at 100m.

K9, I've always thought that they might have used a wood dye rather than a stain to get their color especially in the laminated stocks, but just how I found this: https://imgur.com/gallery/FMGobc5/comment/463256134
with this caption; "Arctic birch treated with tar/beeswax and turpentine stock treatment that really brings out the tiger striping in Birch wood"
but I don't think that would be the case for all rifles. I've also read that they sometimes kiln dried at higher temperatures and essentially caramelized the sap causing some dark spots. I have a solid stock that is much browner in color but I also have one veneered that is very similar color wise to the first one you posted.

Nice one, Geno!

The Russian SKS seem to have the nicest stocks with most Yugoslavian also being beauties. I am glad I overbought back in the day. They make nice gifts. These are a couple of $200 rifles I gave as gifts. I have enough Yugos for myself, but they were appreciated by the recipients. These photos were from the original sales listing but you can see the wood grain.

Gave as presents! I've got a birthday in May (hint, hint); seriously I believe they were much appreciated.
If I get a chance later I'll pull out my other one and post a couple pictures.
Be forewarned it was slightly Bubbaed when I got it so I made what corrections I could, and love it
for the stray it is. It does shoot a decent group at 100yds with its iron sights, but someday I think I'd like to put a peep sight on it.

I fell out of love with Yugos, so they just sat in the safe. They are heavy but look cool. I shoot mostly Chinese SKS.

I still have a frankengun mismatched Yugo and a gorgeous one. I did put peep sights on one and I highly recommend it.
